Long description

The publication consists of daily, monthly and yearly Time Use surveys of a person employed in unpaid work in Bulgaria during 1997 - the most difficult for population year of economical crisis in transitional period to Market Economy. The survey is based on a Time Use Diary per kinds of activities of a typical representative of the group employed in unpaid work - a woman from a traditional Bulgarian household/family, because of a proven feminization of poverty and social exclusion.

With purpose to create a comparison, the determining and the grouping of the activities are according to European and National standards. The Time Use measures are analyzed and compared to analogical National and European ones.

Based on the Time Use Survey the unpaid work is valuated. Conclusions and ideas for overcoming the poverty of employed in unpaid work are made for 2010 - The European year for combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. The publication presents a new way of looking at the economical and social difficulties faced by people and households in crisis situation and is a useful tool in making decisions about overcoming the negativities of the current global economical crisis.

The possibilities of the Time Use Survey are disclosed below:

1. To describe the everyday life in poverty and social exclusion of the employed in unpaid work with no income and paid work in the conditions of Market Economy;

2. To compare it with the everyday life of the other people;

3. To indicate the real social and economical inequality , including gender inequality;

4. To present information for valuation of unpaid work;

5. To help making decisions at all levels, from above to down below – from government to family, for overcoming the poverty of employed in unpaid work (thoroughly women with children) and recognition of the same work;

6. To prove the necessity of their social insurance and dignified life in all countries part of the European Union.
